When people think Bohinj, the first thing that usually pops to mind is the lake, rather than the ski resort. The resort is actually a collection of small villages which spread across the lake and the skiing is found on separate mountains.
The mountain scenery surrounding Bohinj is absolutely stunning. The Julian Alps provide spectacular scenery which is hard to find elsewhere. The snow conditions here are often the best in Slovenia, due to the moisture from the Adriatic hitting the mountains first, before it travels inland.
At the opposite end of the lake to the largest village – Kobla, cable cars lift skiers up to 1544m, where the majority of the skiing begins, in a narrow range up to 1800m. There is a long red run which goes right back down by the lake at 570m. Kobla has more marked pistes than neighbouring Vogel, the two areas together have around 60km of runs.
